The Shield brings home 16 Indiana College Press Association awards

Jessie Bowen Student Worker News & Information Services 812/465-1192 "This is the most awards we've received at the ICPA convention in recent history," said Erin Gibson, instructor in journalism and advisor for The Shield. "I am most excited the students are being recognized for their hard work and talent." Eseniya Matvelieva, sales and marketing director, won first place for Best Display Ad with "Voice your opinion." Chanse Ford, news editor, won first place for Best Non-deadline News Story with "An inconvenient fee." The Shield staff won second place for Best Sports News Story with "USI honors memory of Lewis." In the category of Best Sports News Story, Kelly Monroe's won first with "New policy will protect athletes." She won third place for Best Sports Column with "Save an athlete or yourself." The Shield staff won second place for Best Sports News Story. Dani Palmer, chief copy editor, won first place for Best Opinion Column with "Kids? No, thanks." The Shield staff won second and third place for Best Special Issue with "Transportation Issue" and "Transitions" respectively. Adam Poulisse, staff writer, won second place with "Toy Story 3" in Best Entertainment Column. Zach Evans, editor in chief, won second place for Best Breaking News with "Browning's legal journey finally ends." The Shield staff won third place for Best Home-page Name Plate Design and Best Front Page Design. They also won fourth place for Best Overall Newspaper. Jimmy Pyles, visual editor, won third place for Best Sports Photo and Best News Photo. Caty Haskins, staff writer, won third place for Best Sports Feature Story with "Love, set, match." Both Evans and Gibson will serve on the ICPA Board of Directors. Evans was elected as the vice president of small newspapers. Gibson serves as a faculty advisor to the board. |
