Local schools eligible for national competition

Photo Credit: HI-RES | WEB RELATED VIDEO:  RELATED AUDIO:  Contact for more information: Kathy Funke Director, News & Information Services 812/465-7050 email Two Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation schools who participated in SeaPerch regional competition at the University of Southern Indiana in February and state competition at Indiana State University last week have an opportunity to go to the national competition May 23 to 25 at Drexel University in Philadelphia. The two schools are Evansville North High School and Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center. The students from the North High School team are Matt Bush and Kevin Powell. The team members of the Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center are Chris Akin, Caleb Kerr, and Collin Gray. In the state and regional competitions, the student teams used underwater remotely operated vehicles to compete in events. In the national competitions, the teams will make presentations and compete in vehicle performance competitions. Teams will complete an underwater obstacle course and a simulated sea-floor oil spill similar to the 2010 Gulf disaster. The SeaPerch regional competition at USI was sponsored by the SwISTEM Resource Center in the Pott College of Science and Engineering.
