USI receives berth in Midwest Regional

The Corn Crib is the home of the Frontier League's Normal CornBelters. USI's (37-17) first round opponent is Missouri University of Science & Technology (29-17), which is the fifth seed and is making its first NCAA II Tournament appearance since 1972. The first round game also is a match-up of the two GLVC division champions. The first pitch is set for noon Thursday. In addition to the USI-Missouri S&T match-up, top-seeded GVSU (48-3) is scheduled to start the regional at 7 p.m. Thursday against sixth-seeded Wayne State University (32-19) and third-seeded Northern Kentucky University (34-19) plays fourth-seeded Quincy University (35-18) at 3:30 p.m. Both games are rematches of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the GLVC championship games. GVSU defeated WSU for the GLIAC title on Saturday, while Quincy completed its run through the GLVC Tournament with a win over NKU Sunday morning. USI will be making its 10th appearance in the NCAA II Tournament. The Screaming Eagles have won two regional championships (2007 & 2010) and finished as a semifinalist in the 2007 Division II Championship Series, in addition to last springâ▚¬â–žÂ¢s the national title. Regional champions will advance to the double-elimination championship finals May 28-June 4 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. The finals will be hosted by Mount Olive College and the town of Cary, North Carolina.
