ART 399: Special Topics in Outdoor Sculpture Exhibitions will help put on the exhibition and also offer community engagement activities while ART 399: Special Topics in Photo/Video Documentary will document the exhibition and engagement activities, and enable students to exhibit their documentary work. Sculpt EVV is part of Evansville's Bicentennial Celebration. Dr. Hilary Braysmith, associate professor of art history, received a grant of $120,000 from DMD which is using local sources to fund the project. Braysmith is the project director and has been working with Michael Aakhus, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, to secure the grant and partnership with the city. Aakhus, Art Department faculty, and students will help Braysmith to implement the exhibition. USI Provost Ronald S. Rochon has allocated $20,000 in merit scholarships to support project participation by degree-seeking art and art-related undergraduate or graduate students attending USI. Braysmith and Aakhus announced the exhibition alongside the mayor and Tom Barnett, director of DMD. The outdoor sculptures will be displayed on 14 four- by four-foot concrete pads scattered throughout the arts district and in a sculpture park, also in the arts district. An advertisement inviting artists to participate in the exhibition will appear in the December issue of Sculpture magazine. Artists will submit their concepts online. Marilu Knode, executive director of Laumeier Sculpture Park in St. Louis, will serve as juror for the exhibition, and cash prizes will be awarded. |
