Volume 3 of FishHook to be released October 28

This contest, begun three years ago, is a partnership between USI's FishHook and Student Writer's Union and Tri-State Food Bank's Back Pack - Food for Kids Program, which provides single-serving, easily-prepared food to kids who don't have enough food in the home on weekends. This year's judge of FishHook's Write Away Hunger Contests will be Annam Manthiram, who will present a RopeWalk Reading at 5 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, in Carter Hall D in the University Center. All submissions are considered for publication and winning entries receive prizes and publication in the next issue of FishHook. FishHook, formerly The Aerie, is USI's art and literary magazine, showcasing the top poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and visual art of USI students. "The magazine's name speaks to Evansville's sense of place, tucked in a crook of the Ohio River, and serves as a rich metaphor for the process of being lured, hooked, and changed by the images of the magazine. Like a hook pulled from a river trout's mouth before the fish is tossed back to the water, the fishhook does not pull cleanly free the barb catches and leaves an echo of its shape in the cheek of the fish. And that, as gruesome as it may sound, is how the editors of FishHook feel good literature and art leave us: changed forever, with an echo of its image and voice deep in our flesh," said Nicole Louise Reid, FishHook managing editor and faculty advisor.
