I. Call to order

Meeting was called to order by Debbie Clark at 10:05 a.m.

Debbie Fleck introduced Molly McConnell as the new Assistant Director of Human Resources.

II. Approval of minutes

Motion was made by Ginny Hall that the minutes of the March 29, 2000 meeting be accepted with suggested changes. Chris Jines seconded this motion.

III. Committee Reports

• Economic Benefits – Nothing new to report.
• Employee Relations – Committee members will no longer be soliciting for businesses to join the Discount Club.  An updated list will be distributed to employees at the first of the 2000-2001 fiscal year. The Archibald Eagle Closet (food bank) will be cleaned out on Wednesday, May 24.  Staff council members are welcome to help in this process. A sign up sheet will be distributed for the Employees Picnic at the May meeting.  Suggestion was made that it would be nice if games could be set up like they were for Connections II.
• Nominating – Linda Harmon presented the ballot to be distributed to non-exempt employees. It was determined that the ballot should contain the paragraph from the Staff Council By-laws outlining representation. Nominating ballots are to bereturned to Ginny Hall for compilation by May 8th. Ballots for voting will then be distributed.  Results will be presented at next staff council meeting on May 31st.

IV. Old Business

The Employee Recognition Dinner scheduled for Wednesday, June 14 is going to be less formal than in past years.

It was asked if and when the next Smoking Committee meeting will be scheduled.  Complaints are being received in the Physical Plant regarding the smoking issue on campus.

Issue was raised about how difficult it is for employees and students to find parking when conferences are being held and the pay lot is not being utilized. It was asked if tickets are being issued to people parking improperly.

VI. Discussion/Announcement

Debbie Fleck is leaving the university after the first week in May.  April 26 was her last meeting. Cindy Brinker will be attending staff council meetings until a the position of Director of Human Resources has been filled.

VII. Adjournment

Motion was made to adjourn meeting by Debbie Strueh and seconded by Lois Stevens at 11:15.  Next meeting is scheduled for May 31 at 10:00.
