Debbie Clark called the meeting to order at 2:05 pm
A motion to approve the minutes from the Staff Council Retreat (July
29, 2002) was made by Margaret Flewallen and 2nd by Chris Jines
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Nominating Committee
Debbie Clark reviewed the By-Laws for the Nominating Committee on
filling vacancies and commented that in the event that representatives
resign, we have no pool of candidates to pull members from.
Employee Relations Committee
Margaret Flewallen reported that Archibald Food Closet has donations
coming in and that this year. Jalane Weber reported that ornaments
for the Adopt a Family tree should be brought back by Dec 15th, and
that the sorting of the gifts will be done in UC 101 & 102.
Members asked members of Staff Council if we would like to send cards
to our students who are serving in Armed Forces.
Economic Benefits
Items that will be this area’s concern are employee retention,
insurance and income scale of employees.
NEW BUSINESS:
It’s time for the NCA Self Study on campus again and Staff Council
will be represented by Debbie Clark on the committee.
An e-mail request was presented by Retta Daugherty about a concern a
member of staff had on vacation for employees who had been here 15 years
or longer. This will be turned over to the Economic Benefits committee.
A Code of Ethics will be presented to Staff Council at the next meeting
and other University committees over the next few months. Plans are
to distribute the code to all employees starting in January of 2004.
OLD BUSINESS
Terry Martin commented that Student Development could use volunteers
for Welcome Student Week.
Founder’s day is Monday Sept 15, 2003. This will be the day that
employees who have been here for 25 years will be recognized.
A comment was made that at the Support Staff luncheon some of the employees
who were being honor were confused and didn’t realize that family
members could attend the event. Molly McConnell and Mary Reddington
took note of this comment for next year.
DISCUSSION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Debbie Clark commented on:
- Explained about the Insurance review committee and the challenge
of looking at options.
- asked if anyone still needed a Staff Council notebook
- reminded everyone about the Race for the Cure and that we should
promote this event to everyone.
- Gave a thank you to everyone returning the retreat evaluations.
- Announced that the next meeting will be September 24 at 2:00 in
UC 205
Motion for the meeting to be adjourned was made by Terry Martin and
2nd by Darren Shelton
