Approved minutes

Present: Karen Anderson, Denise Bulger, Debbie Clark, Linda Harmon, Chris Jines, Terry Martin, Terri Schaefer, Darren Shelton, Sara Siminski, Melody Sponn, Pam Van Vorst, Julie Bordelon, Beverly Thomas, Sheree Seib and Jalane Weber

The meeting was called to order at 2:00 P.M. by Staff Council Chair Debbie Clark.

Due to the absence of Lurretta Daugherty, the minutes from the last meeting were not available for approval.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Employee Relations Committee
The Giving Tree ornaments have been out since Nov. 18. The Staff Council is sponsoring 17 USI families this year. Gifts are beginning to come in. Those without secure areas are taking them to the vault in the Registrar’s office thanks to Chris Jines.

Evening with the Eagles Boys Basketball game will be on Dec. 20. It is a double header boy’s game since the girls will be playing out of town. 200 tickets will be available. Each employee may order 4 tickets. There will be refreshments in the Varsity Room. Volunteers are needed at the table at 4:30 for the 4:15 game and through the evening. Terry Schaefer volunteered to work at 4:30. Karen Anderson is working on door prizes. A University wide e-mail will be sent announcing when and where the tickets can be picked up.

Economic Benefits
No meeting during November, but there was a brief discussion of the new health insurance cost and coverage. It appears that once again the increase in the cost of insurance will be more than the annual raise resulting in a loss in income for the year. It was suggested that this information be included in the annual presentation to the President.

NEW BUSINESS:
A Memoriam was read at the Staff Council meeting and will be sent to the family of Michael “Bear” Miller, retired USI maintenance mechanic who passed away on Nov. 19, 2003.
Eagle Food Closet is very low on supplies. It was suggested that employees bring an item to their department parties. Debbie Clark has had volunteers call that are willing to pick up the items from the departments.

The next meeting will be Wed. January 28 at 2:00 in UC 205

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 2:30 p.m. by Darren Shelton, seconded by Melody Sponn
