STAFF COUNCIL MINUTES

January 31, 2001

 PRESENT: Karen Anderson, Don Broshears, Becky Ball, Melissa Burch,  Debbie Clark, Mandi Fulton,  Ginny Hall, Chris Jines,  Phyllis Oeth, Lois Stevens, Debbie Strueh, Sally Townsend, Jalane Weber, Terry Young, Darlene Fisher. 

The meeting was called to order by Debbie Clark at 10:00 a.m. 

Minutes from the November meeting were approved with changes. 

Employee Relations: The minutes from the January meeting were distributed to Staff Council.  Topics the Employee Relations minutes included Adopt A Spot, the Web page, Archibald Eagle Food Closet, Family Day with the Eagles, Special Interest Groups, Suggestion box and the summer Employee Picnic (to be held June 20). 

Economic Benefits:  The Economic Benefits committee met in December.  Don Broshears and Debbie Clark met with administrative personnel in January to discuss Staff Council’s budget proposal ideas.  The areas to be covered in the presentation are:

1.      Salary

2.      Reviewing sick pay policy for retiring employees

3.      Possibility of a supplemental retirement plan

4.   Review of vacation days/schedule

Presentation of our budget will be held on March 19 at 8:30 a.m. in UC 202/203. 

OLD BUSINESS: The By-Laws were reviewed again with a couple of suggestions to be sent back to the By-Law Revision Committee.  The motion to send the suggestions back to the committee was made by Ginny Hall and seconded by Sally Townsend. 

The Smoking Committee met and reacquainted members on the purpose of the committee as well as revisiting a previous list of suggestions.  The next meeting will be Feb. 7 and every 2 weeks thereafter until the issues are resolved.

Nancy Kovanic received good reviews on the presentation given at the Spring Support Staff meeting.

Darlene Fisher will check on the official date for Student Worker Appreciation Day.

The Safety Committee met last week and conducted a walk through of buildings checking on lighting and reviewed the OSHA regulations. 

Becky Ball made a motion to adjourn the meeting which was seconded by Ginny Hall.
