Approved minutes

Present: Julie Bordelon, Denise Bulger, Debbie Clark, Lurretta Daugherty, Linda Harmon Donna Hopf, Terry Martin, Sheree Seib, Terri Schaefer, Jalane Weber, Sara Siminski, Darren Shelton, Pam Van Vorst, Molly McConnell, Tim Buecher

Debbie Clark called the meeting to order at 2:05 p.m.

A motion to approve the minutes was given by Darren Shelton and 2nd by Terri Schaefer.

Tim Buecher was approached by Dr. Robert Ruble to investigate the possibility of free rides for staff and faculty at the carnival during Springfest. Mr. Buecher expanded on this idea by suggesting that Staff Council consider combining our picnic with the Springfest. It was discussed and approved by Staff Council.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Employee Relations Committee
28 families were helped by the Giving Tree. The Council might want to limit dollar amount next year. Julie Bordelon brought up that there were 43 International students on campus that did not get to go home this year. Could this committee look into adopt a student?
Family day with the Eagles was a hit this year, only 7 tickets were left.
Economic Benefits
Feb 20, 2004, is the date of the budget hearing and Debbie Clark asked Staff Council to come to the hearings if possible. This is one way to show support for the proposal.
Lurretta Daugherty said that she would talk to Marriott about the recognition for perfect attendance every 6 months.
Nominating
The Nominating Committee is gearing up to find people interested in serving on Staff Council.

NEW BUSINESS:
Melody Sponn has left the University which leaves an opening on Staff Council. Julie Bordelon said that she would replace Melody on the Smoking Committee. Melody was also on the By-Law Committee, but as of right now there is no reason to fill this position

OLD BUSINESS
A Transportation & Parking Committee reported that their are concerns on where construction workers will park while the new structures are being built. The new residence hall will have additional parking and there is talk about moving fleet vehicles back to the valley lot.

Motion for the meeting to be adjourned was made by Darren Shelton and 2nd by Terri Schaefer.
