Recorded by Jalane Weber The meeting was called to order by Vice President Barbara Goodwin. Debbie Clark, President, is on vacation. The meeting was called to order at 10:05 by Barb Goodwin. The minutes from the May meeting were approved with a motion by Lois Stevens and seconded by Karen Anderson. OLD BUSINESS: The Staff Council Picnic held on June 20 was evaluated. Most comments were very good, with appreciation for the good food and fellowship. There were a few recommendations, that macaroni salad be served instead of cole slaw, the sound system was not sufficient to hear the drawings for the door prizes, and the cookies served last year were missed! It was recognized that there were almost no lines since Bar-b-que was already prepared and no waiting for food to be grilled. A suggestion was made that we may want to draw for prizes before the picnic begins and winners posted during the picnic, to include cookies in the menu, and possibly exchange the cole slaw. All of the door prizes were claimed, and the RFC staff did a good job with games. NEW BUSINESS: A representative from USI would like to give a brief presentation at the July Staff Council Retreat explaining our involvement with “Race for the Cure” being held in Evansville on Sept 22, 2001. USI is hoping to have 1000 people represent USI in this event. Registration forms will be available in July. Darlene Fisher gave a report on the Staff Council Budget Proposals submitted during the Budget Hearings. An additional .5% of the support staff salary pool was made available to departments for merit increases. In addition, the support staff vacation accrual policy will change to reflect 20 days of vacation after 11 years of service. An e-mail will be sent to employees describing the changes made for the new fiscal year beginning July 1, 2001. These changes will be reflected in the USI University Handbook Revisions to be made during the month of August. Human Resources will conduct a study on the feasibility of a support staff severance policy to be completed before the next budget hearings. No action will take place on the recommendation of a supplemental retirement plan. The ambassador program is going extremely well. About 9 new employees have met with ambassadors and everyone seems very satisfied with the program. The By-Laws committee met and will be recommending a couple of suggested changes. These changes will be presented at the August meeting. DISCUSSION/ANNOUNCEMENTS: Photos of new employees need to be taken as soon as possible at News and Information Services. The photos will then be included in the web site. Pictures taken at the Staff Council Picnic were available for viewing! The retreat is scheduled for Tuesday, July 24 from 11–4:30. David Huebner made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Becky Ball. |
