Approved minutes

Present: Don Broshears, Darlene Fisher, Mandi Fulton , Donna Hoph, David Huebner, Molly McConnell Sandi Migonis, Terri Schaefer, Renee Schofield, Rose Scruggs, Darren Shelton, Lois Stevens, Becky Warford, Mary Alice Weigand

Sandi Migonis called the meeting to order at 10:10 am

Sandi Migonis introduced the following new Staff Council Members:

Debbie Clark, Linda Harmon, Mary Reddington, Lurretta Daugherty, Yvonne Floyd, Margaret Flewallen, Sara Siminski and Melody Sponn

Molly McConnell gave appreciation certificates to the members that were leaving Staff Council

Approval of Minutes

The Minutes were approved with corrections

Motion to approve by Mandi Fulton and seconded by Rene Schofield

Committee Reports

Nominating Committee

Dave Huebner will send the End of Year (EOY) reports to the secretary for the records.

Employee Relations Committee

Lois Stevens thanked all those that made this past year a success. Her EOY report is enclosed.

Lois Steven reminded us to visit the website and see what a good job Rose has done. Rose has volunteered to keep it updated if she is needed even though her time on Staff Council will end at this time.

Molly McConnell stated that Darlene fisher will have her name on the Giving Tree Project Fund.

New Business:

Archibald’s Closet outdated food was distributed around campus.

Following this discussion, a new food drive is planned for fall 2003. There will be an e-mail sent out to announce it with suggested needed items such as canned meat, peanut butter, and heat and eat meals.

Each recipient that has a need will be able to get 1-2 bags of items. It is based on need and is free to anyone.

A policy will be posted in the closet area. It was also suggested that Archibald’s closet information be included in the student admission packets. Posters also will be placed around campus.

Don Broshears brought up the discussion of e-mail soliciting for church socials, and other items for sale. Wayne Bohm is in charge of e-mail monitoring and this can be brought to his attention if needed. Dave Huebner reminded us that we can use the market place in University Notes for selling items. Darlene Fisher confirmed that e-mail is not the place for solicitation.

Sandi Migonis stated that she is working on a committee along with Sherrianne

Standley on code of ethics for the University.

Old Business

Tobacco use policy on campus needs to be re-visited. We do not need more cigarette butt receptacles.

Don Broshears said that we need to educate the smoker not to litter. He also stated that smokeless tobacco is the issue now and needs to be for the next council to address.

Renee Schofield said that they have been very busy in her department and that Nadine Coudret will address the water outage emergency plan due to a health issue. This also needs to be revisited at the next council or further input.

The emergency policy concerning snow days will be postponed and addressed when Linda Bennett takes her office.

Molly McConnell said that she will put it in her notes to contact the employees.

Sandi Migonis announced the Staff Council Retreat is Tuesday, July 29^th in the Carter Hall A & B from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. She also reviewed the propsed agenda for the new council members.

Sandi Migonis also stated that new Staff Council Books are needed, these will be constructed.

Darren Shelton motioned to adjourn the meeting and Lois Steven seconded the motion at 11:20 am.
