The meeting was called to order by Debbie Clark at 10:00 am.

A motion was made by Becky Ball and seconded by Ginny Hall to accept the February minutes with changes.

  • Employee Relations: Marriott Food Services will host a food drive the week of April 2.  Prizes will be offered each day to contributors of non-perishable items.  Staff Council has been asked to help with the drive.

The budget for the Staff Council picnic has been approved by the Business office.  A smaller amount of large door prizes are being considered instead of many small ones.  Glenna Bower will provide games and prizes.  The picnic is June 20, 2001.

  • Economic Benefits:  A figure adjustment was made on one of the spread sheets used in the proposal presented to the Budget committee by Debbie Clark on March 19, 2001.  The presentation was generally accepted by the committee, with specific emphasis placed on salary increase as the number one priority of Staff Council.  Discussion about the proposal and the presentation followed.

  • By-Laws:  No meeting this month

  • Old Business:  The function of the Smoking Committee is to make recommendations concerning smoking on campus.  A clean up day is being planned and the committee would appreciate Staff Council help with promotion and the actual clean up.  The Ecology club has also been contacted about their involvement with this project.  Much discussion ensued about the number of issues to be examined in order to enforce change concerning issues.  “Adopt a Spot” clean up was a suggestion made within the committee.  Other Universities are being contacted about smoking issues on their campuses.

Parking around the Liberal Arts building is an obvious challenge for everyone.  No additional parking by the University is in progress at this time, however the parking issue is discussed and planned by various committees on a regular basis.

  • New Business:  The new Fitness Center is now open and free to employees and students.  There is a possibility of a fee being charged beginning in the Fall of 2001.

Fuel leaks have occurred twice within the past month on campus.  A Staff Council member explained the attempts being made thus far to correct this situation and it should not occur again.

Dr. Hoops made a brief appearance to comment on the presentation made by Staff Council to the Budget Committee.

Debbie Strueh made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Becky Ball..
