PRESENT: Karen Anderson, Don Broshears, Becky Ball, Debbie
Clark, Barb Goodwin, Ginny Hall, Melissa Burch, Michelle Hermann, Kathy
MacGregor, Phyllis Oeth, Lois Stevens, Sally Townsend, Jalane Weber, Darlene
Fisher, Kim Greenlee Kim Greenlee, HR coordinator, was introduced by Darlene
Fisher. Kim will assist Staff Council with the mentoring program. Employee Relations: Staff Council Family Outing
tickets for the Dec. 16 basketball games will be available from the PAC
counter. 200 tickets have been reserved for this event. Each full time
employee may have 4 tickets. The Varsity Club will be providing food for the
families. Attendance prizes have been donated by local business to encourage
attendance. Photos of new employees or those who may have been missed
last time are needed for the slide presentation at the Spring Staff Meeting.
Still looking for a presenter for this Jan 3 meeting. Economic Benefits: The budget hearings will take
place from mid February thru mid March. Don Broshears talked to Dennis Avery
about increasing the multiplier factor. To increase the multiplier requires
changes to be made by the state legislation which will require state wide
support. By-Laws for Staff Council are being revised. Each member
has received a copy of the present by-laws with changes that have been proposed
and was asked to make their recommendations at the January meeting. OLD BUSINESS: Part time employees are usually not
eligible for free classes offered by the university. However, if the class
enhances the present work of the employee, decisions about class participation
are studied on a case by case basis. Thanks to Barb Goodwin who did an Excellent job on the
Proclamation for the Great American Smoke out. NEW BUSINESS: The following committees have been
filled: Traffic: Lois Stevens Substance Abuse: Karen Anderson EEO: Ginny Hall 3 years, Barb Goodwin 2 years, Mandy
Fulton 1 year Safety: Jerry Bulger (not a current staff council member,
but will report anything necessary to Staff Council). Family Sick Leave: Presently there is a 5 day limit for
family sick time off. Questions were asked about the possibility of rolling
over those days or if a percentage of personal sick time could be used for
family. Darlene Fisher will check on guidelines and possibilities. Melissa Burch will fill the remainder of the term left
vacant by Linda Harmon who resigned from Staff Council. Darlene Fisher reported that the smoking committee
reports from before were recovered. The committee is trying to secure 2
students and one administrative replacement to add to the present committee.
The committee hopes to meet before the holidays. A major concern is smoking
outside building entrances.
December 14 from 11 – 1 will be Open House at the
President’s home. Compensation and Benefits Manager Angie Brawdy will
return at the beginning of the year from maternity leave. Heide Oxby has been
hired as Administrative Assistant in HR
An announcement concerning inclement weather procedures
was suggested. December 25, 26 and 27 will be considered Holiday pay.
December 28 and 29 will be winter recess, and Jan 1 will be Holiday. Most of the employee evaluations have been turned in to
HR. It was discussed again about the possibility of revising the format of the
forms to fit the departments. A suggestion was made that evaluations be
completed on employees anniversary date rather than all at the same time. There will be no December meeting. The next meeting will
be January 24, 2001. A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 11:00 by
Ginny Hall and seconded by Becky Ball.
