Approved Minutes

Present: Sandi Migonis, Dave Huebner, Darlene Fisher, Terri Schaefer, Karen Anderson, Lois Stevens, and Rose Scruggs.

Sandi Migonis called the meeting to order at 10:07 a.m.

i) Approval of Minutes

(a) A quorum was not present to accept the minutes.

ii) Committee Reports

(a) Nominating Committee Report

1. Dave Huebner reported that Darren Shelton and Becky Warford will be replacing Staff Council Members who have taken other employment positions.

(b) Employee Relations Report

1. Lois Stevens said that "Family Day with the Eagles" will be on January 9, 2003.

2. Lois also mentioned that Archibald’s Food Closet will need some straightening up, especially after the Caring Cans Food Drive, which will end November 25th.

3. The Giving Trees are in many areas with wish ornaments on them. The wrapped gifts will be collected and will be delivered to the individuals or families.

4. Rose Scruggs wanted everyone to visit the Staff Council website; she has made some additions for all to see. Also, pictures of new Staff Council members are needed for updates.

5. USI Employee Savings Program was revisited by Lois Stevens, and it was suggested that Staff Council needs to create a committee separate from ERC or turn over the project to the Alumni Department; they have already expressed interest in doing a similar program to include retirees, students and alumni.

(c) Economic Benefits Committee Report

1. Sandi Migonis has volunteered to help and is going to schedule a meeting with the remaining committee members along with new members.

iii) Old Business

(a) Darlene Fisher gave a report on the following questions from Staff Council:

(1) Darlene explained that Web-for-employee training focusing on accessing pay stubs has been positive.

(2) Darlene Fisher also said that third shift employees can access it from 10- 11 p.m., the computer shutdown will be from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. We are continuing to assess additional problem areas. Special icons may be added to make navigation easier.

(3) Darlene announced that USI Human Resources received the Family Friendly and Diversity Award. More information is available on HR website.

(4) USI also exceeded our United Way goal.

(5) Darlene also reminded us that the USI handbook is now online. She also wanted to remind us to check the HR website for changes and additional information.

(6) Molly McConnell is working on applications for employment and they will soon be online.

(7) Darlene wanted us to know the Staff Council budget never closed from last year. Hopefully there will be a written response ready for the next meeting. Some are long-term solutions and are still being evaluated.

(8) She also wanted us to know that the Staff Spring meeting may be cancelled.

(9) The annual recognition dinner during the summer may be changed. It may be better to recognize peers during the day. A reception at 3:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. may be more convenient or it could be included as part of the fall luncheon.

iv) Dave Huebner motioned to adjourn the meeting at 11:19 a.m. Lois Stevens seconded the motion.
