October 27, 2004 Present: Debbie Clark, Pam Van Vorst, Christine Crews, Donna Hopf, Sheree Seib, Christina Jines, Linda Harmon, Lurretta Daugherty, Jalane Weber, Terry Martin, Darren Shelton, Shannon Hoehn, Terri Schaefer, Yvonne Floyd, Angie Brawdy and Julie Bordelon Debbie Clark called the meeting to order at 2:04 pm. A motion to approve the minutes from the 9/29/2004, Staff Council meeting was made by Lurretta Daugherty and 2nd by Christina Jines. Update: 2,000 instead of 1,500 hot dogs and buns will be donated to the tailgate party on 11/6/2004. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Economic Benefits: Angie Brawdy is researching to get the best benefit of adding short term disability insurance for employees, and Yvonne Floyd will assist in designing a survey to distribute to see if employees are interested and would enroll for January 2006. Terri Schaefer has requested HR look at what can be done with shift differential wages. Darren Shelton is seeing how to get textbooks to rent or reduced cost from the bookstore. Christine Crews, Lurretta Daugherty and Julie Bordelon are gathering salary information for the budget presentation. Nominating Committee: Nothing to report. NEW BUSINESS: Angie Brawdy said open enrollment packets to be mailed 11/5, and a health insurance information fair will be 11/10 from 9am to 3pm. Welborn Clinic doctors are no longer in the Anthem network. With Banner, employees can have payroll deposits up to 4 locations. Deb Clark stated the committee interviewing for the new HR assistant director, he/she be accessible, have knowledge in calculating wages, familiar with interacting in a group setting similar to Staff Council, have a background in employee negotiations and be a good sounding board. OLD BUSINESS: In response to the bee sting incident reported on 9/25/04, it was discovered the student was not stung by a bee but had a reaction to poison oak. A janitorial member felt sorry for the student and drove the student to the MEC. The student could have called a Yellow Cab and charged the fare on their student ID, called Deaconess On-Call Program–Health Topics and asked for advice from the nurse who comes on after the message (if a charge, USI pays), or called Deaconess directly and talked to someone for free.
