III. Committee Reports

  •  Economic Benefits – Marsha Salee reported that Mark Webb, legal council for PERF, has been contacted regarding a list of businesses/Universities that have PERF retirement plans and she is waiting for a reply.  Don Broshears met with a local state representative Dennis Avery.  Avery said he would provide Don with copies of previous bills that have been presented regarding an increase of retirement benefits.  The state representative also advised that in the upcoming legislative session, budget matters will not be addressed which means we will have to wait for the next session to present our request.
  •  Employee Relations – Planting was done in the Staff Council Adopt-A-Spot on September 18.  A sign up sheet for watering plants was distributed.  The mentoring program for new employees is being coordinated with Human Resources.   The picnic was discussed and the Theatre department may be able to participate this year by making a presentation.  The brochure on University Savings Incentive Program was sent to all employees.  This brochure will be posted on the Human Resources web page until Staff Council has its own web page. Suggestion was made that pictures be taken of staff council members and posted on the Web page.  The Staff Council Newsletter was well received.

IV. Old Business

 No old business was discussed.

V. New Business

  •  Marriott provides food service for University of Evansville.  Employees of the University of Evansville pay a flat rate for their lunch.  Discussion was held on exploring the possibility of having Marriott provide the same type of service to employees of the University of Southern Indiana.  Economic Benefits has been assigned this task to review.
  •  Nancy Byrd announced that a campus-wide smoking committee was being re-established.

VI. Discussion

  • The committee decided the guidelines for the recycling program are to be distributed again through the Staff Council Newsletter.
  • Question was raised on where students are able to send faxes from on campus.  Students can send and receive faxes from the bookstore or the Student Life Office.   The cost of faxing is $1.00/page for incoming faxes and $2.00/page for outgoing faxes.
  • The USI Employee Emergency Information handout needs to be updated.
