Present: Becky Ball, Don Broshears, Nancy Byrd, Debbie Clark, Don Fleming,
Diane Fuqua, Martha Gilbert, Barbara Goodwin, Linda Harmon, Chris Jines, Kathy

I. Call to order - Meeting was called to order by Debbie Clark at 10:10 a.m.
II. Approval of minutes - Motion was made that the minutes be approved with
suggested changes by Martha Gilbert and seconded by Margaret Ochsner.
III. Committee Reports
- Economic Benefits – Marsha Salee reported that Mark Webb, legal council
for PERF, has been contacted regarding a list of businesses/Universities that
have PERF retirement plans and she is waiting for a reply. Don Broshears met
with a local state representative Dennis Avery. Avery said he would provide
Don with copies of previous bills that have been presented regarding an
increase of retirement benefits. The state representative also advised that
in the upcoming legislative session, budget matters will not be addressed
which means we will have to wait for the next session to present our request.
- Employee Relations – Planting was done in the Staff Council Adopt-A-Spot
on September 18. A sign up sheet for watering plants was distributed. The
mentoring program for new employees is being coordinated with Human
Resources. The picnic was discussed and the Theatre department may be able
to participate this year by making a presentation. The brochure on University
Savings Incentive Program was sent to all employees. This brochure will be
posted on the Human Resources web page until Staff Council has its own web
page. Suggestion was made that pictures be taken of staff council members and
posted on the Web page. The Staff Council Newsletter was well received.
IV. Old Business
No old business was discussed.
V. New Business
- Marriott provides food service for University of Evansville. Employees
of the University of Evansville pay a flat rate for their lunch. Discussion
was held on exploring the possibility of having Marriott provide the same type
of service to employees of the University of Southern Indiana. Economic
Benefits has been assigned this task to review.
- Nancy Byrd announced that a campus-wide smoking committee was being
re-established.
VI. Discussion
- The committee decided the guidelines for the recycling program are to be
distributed again through the Staff Council Newsletter.
- Question was raised on where students are able to send faxes from on
campus. Students can send and receive faxes from the bookstore or the Student
Life Office. The cost of faxing is $1.00/page for incoming faxes and
$2.00/page for outgoing faxes.
- The USI Employee Emergency Information handout needs to be updated.
VII. Adjournment - Motion was made to adjourn meeting by Don Fleming and
seconded by Margaret Ochsner.
