September 24, 2002 Present: Janet Johnson, Don Broshears, Dave Huebner, Terry Martin, Sally Townsend, Rose Scruggs, Madonna Shaw, Lois Stevens, Karen Anderson, Sandi Migonis, Molly McConnell, Donna Hopf Recorder: Linda Dillbeck Sandi Migonis called the meeting to order at 10:05 Welcome, to the new members of the Staff Council, they are Donna Hopf and Renee Schofield. Brandi Bauer and Melissa Burch resigned their position on Staff Council due to personal reasons. 1) Approval of Minutes i) Rose Scruggs motioned to approve the minutes with corrections and seconded by Sally Townsend. 2) Committee Reports i) Economic Benefits Committee (a) Melissa Burch had received information from Ball State, ISU, IU, and Purdue pertaining to Staff Salary and Benefits, before she resigned. (b) Janet Johnson said that we are looking over the information and will get the information to the council at a later date. We are also looking for a person to chair this committee. ii) Employee Relations Committee (a) Lois Stevens reported the following; Archibald’s Food Closet has enough items for the beginning few weeks of the semester. A food drive will probably be organized later in the year. (b) Adopt-a-Spot needs help with weeding and watering this fall. (c) Family day with the Eagles is planned for Dec. 28th and 29th. More information will be available next month. (d) Dave Huebner said the Giving Tree Committee met in August to begin plans for the event. (e) Student Worker week plans will begin January of 2003. (f) Rose Scruggs said the web page has a new version; some areas are still under construction. A place for advertisements and committee reports were suggested. (g) January 2003, we will begin the plans for the USI Employee Picnic. Lois Stevens agreed to help with the Employee Savings Program. (h) Karen Anderson and Donna Hopf volunteered to help Lois with the program. 3) New Business (a) Sandi Migonis said that Debbie Clark is on the search committee for the new Vice President for Academic Affairs and the advertisement is prepared. (b) It was decided that the Staff Council meetings will remain on Tuesday at the same time. There will not be a meeting in December. (c) Terry Schaefer said that the third shift staffs are not aware of notices or announcements. (d) It was suggested to send the minutes as an attachment in email to staff personnel or a message to check the Staff Council web page. 4) Old Business (a) Sally Townsend contacted the computer center and found out there is a charge to have a courtesy phone. (b) Don Broshears requested feed back from Human Resources regarding Staff Council budget proposals. (c) Molly McConnell from Human Resources said that Kim Greenlee is now Manager of Employment. Darlene Fisher, Angie Brawdy and Cindy Brinker are discussing benefit renewal for 2003. (d) Race for the Cure went well, with 504 participants this year. There will be pictures on the web soon.
