Eagle Math has 94 percent completion rate
Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation second graders got the job done when it came to Eagle Math this spring. The annual program, which encourages the development of math skills by combining athletics and arithmetic, had a 94 percent completion rate. Fourteen of the 15 local schools reported that 727 of the 773 second graders had satisfactorily completed their workbooks. Fifth-Third Bank, which sponsored the program, rewarded each student with $10 with which to open a savings account. The Eagle Math program was created in 1994 by Dr. Charles Bertram, professor of education and mathematics, in an effort to combine math, community, and athletics.

Eagles hope third time is the charm in Vectren Classic
The Screaming Eagles hope the third time will be the charm when they play the University of Evansville Aces in the third Vectren Community Classic November 1 at Roberts Stadium. The 2008 edition of the USI-Evansville match-up, sponsored by Kenny Kent Toyota Lexus Scion, is the finale of the three games in five years agreement. The exhibition game, which has fast become Evansville’s most popular basketball game, will tip-off the season for both the Eagles and the Aces. The Aces won the opener in 2004, 88-75, in front of 12,441 fans. The second meeting in 2006 ended 77-75 in favor of the Aces before a crowd of 11,597. Tickets will go on sale to the public in the fall.

ArchiCamp offered at New Harmony
Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana and Historic New Harmony will offer the award-winning ArchiCamp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at the Atheneum. Children ages 8 to 12 will spend the one-day camp discovering history in 3D through the architecture and landmarks of New Harmony. ArchiCamp encourages children to use their imaginations and powers of observation while they learn about history, architecture, and renovation. Campers will explore New Harmony and enjoy hands-on activities, finding their way through the historic labyrinth and creating their own stained glass designs. They’ll visit several historic churches and build their own models using recycled materials. This is the second year for the New Harmony ArchiCamp, winner of a prestigious award from the American Association of State and Local History.  Cost of the camp is $25 and includes refreshments, educational materials, and souvenirs. Campers should bring a sack lunch. Enrollment for the camp is limited to 20 children. Reservations must be made by July 4. Contact Suzanne Stanis at Historic Landmarks Foundation: 800/450-4534.

From the Development Office
If your department has received a gift-in-kind this year, a form must be processed by the end of June so the donor's gift can be properly recognized and claimed as a 2008 tax deduction.  Gifts-in-kind, or charitable gifts of non-cash property, include such things as library books, oriental rugs, paintings, and other fine art gifts, computer software, laboratory equipment, and real estate.  There are substantial tax benefits to be derived from such gifts.  The form, Foundation Gift-in-Kind Request, may be found among the listing of Outlook forms on your computer.  Call the Development Office at 812/464-1918 if you have any questions.
