Hand-Papermaking

August 8, 15, & 22, 2009, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Classes will be held at the Double Log Cabin on North Street,
New Harmony

Session 1:  Introduction to Papermaking
An overview of hand papermaking, including materials and processes, will be presented, along with basics of sheet forming. Participants will make some paper and questions pertaining to specific papermaking possibilities for the print invitational will be addressed.

Session 2:  Sheet Forming and Embellishments
Sheet forming demonstrations will continue covering the added embellishments of color lamination, embedding, use of stencils, shaped deckles, addition of natural or man-made materials and personal watermarks.

Session 3:  Open Workshop
Participants will have time to prepare their own plant fibers, shaped deckles, stencils and watermarks in between sessions.  Basic cotton pulp will be supplied.  Wear shoes that can get wet and waterproof aprons to protect clothing if need be.
