New Harmony Theatre
about new harmony theatre

In these tenuous times, New Harmony Theatre affirms the belief that theatre is as vital to our lives as the air we breathe.  It refreshes our spirit, quickens our heart, and reminds us that we are not alone.  Most important, the theatre gives us a place to dream together.

Last summer, when we announced our 2009 season, we didn’t realize just how much we would need these three plays now.  These beloved and enduring American masterpieces have never been so resonant.  And what a thrill to experience them all in one season, wrapped tightly together and then unfurled like a flag.

Our season celebrates the American dreamer, in all of her grace, frailty, and oddball exuberance.  The unforgettable people who inhabit these plays are quintessentially American.  They capture the limitless vitality of our nation’s spirit – tragic and triumphant, fragile yet indomitable, riotous and rugged.  They invite us to view the world through a trio of inveterate dreamers – Blanche, Elwood, and Sky – who, in the face of crumbling conventions, hold onto their aspirations and ideals.  They embolden us to dream with undiminished ardor and panache.

If you need to consort with beauty and greatness; if you treasure distant voyages and journeys inward; if you long for a gathering place in which great artists and great audiences breathe the same air, this is the season.  Join us.

We promise to work every day of our lives to bring you the great performances you deserve.

You’re all stars!
