Meet the Director

Artistic Director

LeibowitzLENNY LEIBOWITZ has directed professionally in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and Seattle. He directed the world premiere of Making Tracks, which workshopped at the Joseph Papp Public Theatre and ran Off-Broadway at Rockefeller Center's Taipei Theater. He has directed productions at some of the nation's leading regional theatres, including the Olney Theatre in Maryland and the Boston Playwrights' Theatre. Recently, he directed Romeo and Juliet for the National Players, the country's oldest and most prestigious classical touring company. Other regional theatre credits include the Huntington Theatre's Breaking Ground Festival (Boston), where he staged David Rambo's Ice Breakers, and Seattle's Intiman Theatre, where he co-wrote, developed and directed Before the Rain as the recipient of a Freehold grant.

As artistic director of the Civic Theatre of Allentown, Lenny staged over twenty productions, including the Pennsylvania premiere of James Joyce's The Dead. He has also been a resident director for the Chamber Theatre Company in Boston. A Philadelphia native, Lenny made his professional debut as a piano soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra. As a musical director, he has conducted the first European tours of On the Town and Grease. He received his B.A. from Columbia University and his M.F.A. from Boston University, where he was also a member of the conservatory faculty. Currently, he is an assistant professor of theatre at the University of Southern Indiana. He is a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, the union of professional directors in the United States.

Managing Director

amy estesAMY ESTES joined New Harmony Theatre in 2004 and has served as its managing director since 2006. She is proud to have partnered with Lenny Leibowitz in launching The Repertory Project and in celebrating New Harmony Theatre's 20th anniversary season in 2007. Previously, Amy was the managing director for Riverside Theatre in Iowa City, Iowa, where she launched the Riverside Shakespeare Festival and co-founded the Johnson County Cultural Alliance. During her tenure there, she completed two successful capital campaigns, reinvigorated the theatre's subscription program, signed its first LORT-D contract, developed many audience outreach and education programs, and tripled the theatre's annual operations, including programming, staffing and budget.

Amy was the first Rea Fellow in Theater Management at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, where she launched the Guthrie Lab's wildly successful subscription series. She has worked at Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Berkshire Theatre Festival, and the Powerhouse Theater/New York Stage & Film program at Vassar College. She has taught theatre, theatre management, and non-profit administration at University of Iowa and University of Southern Indiana. Amy has served as a grants panelist for the Iowa Arts Council, on the boards of the River City Housing Collective, Iowa City Community Leadership Program, and Arts After Hours at the University of Iowa Museum of Art, and consulted for The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee, Huldufolk Theatre, and The Strand Theatre. She completed a master of fine arts in theatre management at the University of Alabama and Alabama Shakespeare Festival and attended the Tippie College of Business at University of Iowa. She is a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy and has her BA from Vassar College.
