The New Harmony Writers Workshop is a week-long summer retreat offering workshops in poetry and prose. Each workshop will allow up to twelve participants to work intensely and intimately with writers of established national and international reputation. The NHWW experience includes feature readings, a publication forum, craft lectures, and manuscript conferences led by noteworthy authors. During a productive but relaxed week attendees are provided opportunities to confer with one another and focus on independent projects in serene New Harmony, Indiana, site of two nineteenth-century utopian experiments.
Historic New Harmony provides an ideal setting for this event with its retreat-like atmosphere and its history of creative and intellectual achievement. Restored buildings from the Harmonist and Owenite utopias stand a few hundred feet from the Atheneum, Richard Meier’s award-winning visitors’ center. New Harmony is located at the junction of Indiana highways 66, 68, and 69, and is about a 35-minute drive from Evansville, Indiana.
