Time Commitments
AMIGOs are required to be available for ALL of the events
listed below.
**Some exceptions can be made. If you
have a conflict with the times for training sessions, please talk with David
Duvall, the Assistant Director of Student Development Programs, at 465-7167
to see if you are still eligible to be an AMIGO.
Training Sessions
AMIGOs will receive intensive training on everything
that they need to know about USI that would be of interest to an incoming
student. AMIGOs need to be available for all of the following training
sessions:
January-April: All Mondays and Wednesdays, some
Fridays—3:00-4:15 p.m.
**Be sure to schedule around these times when making
your class schedule for spring semester.
Training Retreat
AMIGOs
will participate in a 3-day weekend training retreat designed to build
teamwork and leadership skills and to help AMIGOs develop an understanding
of their roles. This retreat will occur January 20-22, 2012.
Orientation
Leader Conference
AMIGOs have the opportunity to participate in a 3-day
weekend training conference for orientation leaders. This fun-filled and
exciting conference will be held on the campus of Indiana State University, but will include participants representing universities from
the states of Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and the Canadian province of Ontario.
This conference will occur March 16-18, 2012.
**This is not a required time
commitment for the AMIGO program.
Orientation Sessions/Typical Workday
AMIGOs are required to work all of the orientation sessions for new students
and transfer students. A typical orientation workday starts at 7 a.m. for
check-in setup and lasts until between 5-6 p.m. when advising and
registration is completed. AMIGOs are relieved from duty to attend classes.
The schedule for the 2012 orientation sessions are as follows:

Mid-summer Retreats
All AMIGOs must attend three one-day mid-summer retreats during the summer.
The retreats will be designed to build teamwork and trust among the staff,
refresh the AMIGOs on orientation duties and mindsets, and complete any
office work to prepare for orientation sessions. The dates of the retreats
are as follows:

Welcome Week
AMIGOs will be required to
participate in certain Welcome Week activities. The specific programs that
AMIGOs must help facilitate will be specified in August but will fall within
the week of August 16-22, 2012.
2013 AMIGO Recruitment
AMIGOs selected to help with the 2012 Orientation and Welcome Week programs
will assist with the recruitment of the 2013 AMIGOs during the 2012 fall
term. Responsibilities will include sitting at information tables, attending
information sessions, and contacting students who have expressed interest in
being AMIGOs.
