AMIGOs

The AMIGO position is one of the strongest leadership positions on campus. AMIGOs are highly motivated, involved student leaders who assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all aspects of the Orientation and Welcome Week Programs at the University of Southern Indiana.

An AMIGO serves as a peer advisor for new students through the academic advising and registration processes. AMIGOs also must be knowledgeable of campus programs and services in order to provide new students with the resources they need. In addition, AMIGOs are required to serve as role models for new students by displaying mature and responsible behavior. AMIGOs must be flexible, and must accept new tasks or take on additional responsibilities at any time while on duty.

AMIGOs are frequently required to set aside their immediate personal needs and motivations for the purposes of building a team and providing the help and service that USI’s new students and families need. An AMIGO is required to work well with different types of people and should appreciate the diversity that each AMIGO brings to the team. Through combining each AMIGO’s individual backgrounds and strengths, a strong team that represents USI’s student body is created.
