USI CAP Courses

CAP offers over 40 courses in participating high schools. As authorized by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, certain liberal arts and career/technical education courses have been deemed priority courses. CAP tuition for these courses is $25 per credit hour; tuition for all other CAP courses remain $80 per credit hour (nearly a third of USI's undergraduate tuition rate). Students who qualify for the free/reduced lunch program will receive a tuition waiver for CAP courses, pending eligibility verification and if indicated during the application process.

CAP courses can not only be used at USI but also have a high rate of transferability to other institutions. Over half of the USI courses offered through CAP are also part of the Indiana Core Transfer Library (CTL). The CTL was created to help families determine how college credits transfer among Indiana public institutions, as well as some independent colleges and universitites.

How to use the TransferIN.net Core Transfer Library

1. Log on to www.transferin.net to access the CTL.
2. Click on 'High School Students'
3. Select CTL from the dropdown menu
4. View courses by CTL name (if you need the CTL name, reference list below)
5. Select the course CTL name. For example, USI's ENG 101, Rhetoric and Composition I: Literacy & the Self is equivalent to the CTL's English Composition 1.

Different institutions give their courses unique names. The CTL assigns courses a generic name to cover the variety of course names throughout the state. All of the courses shown for a CTL course name are equivalent courses at the respective institution. For example, under the CTL course name, American History 1, you can see that USI's HIST 101 is equal to IU Bloomington's HIST-H105, American History 1.

Students should always contact the prospective school to see how the credit will be accepted before submitting their CAP application.

For complete course descriptions, click on the USI course titles within the chart, then click on the course name that appears in the USI Academic Bulletin.
