3 tips to become a selfie pro

Three tips to become a selfie pro

By Chaze Patrick, Outreach and Engagement Marketing Assistant

Taking a selfie is like an art. Lighting, background and camera functions are factors that come into play even when taking photos on your smart phone. Here are three tips that can help you become a selfie master.

Appropriate lighting

The use of lighting sources can be your best friend or worst enemy in photography. Whether it is artificial, natural or ambient light, too much or too little light can distort the subject being used in a selfie. To avoid this, try taking outdoor or indoor shots with the direction of the light instead of against it.

Balanced background

The background of the photo is essential in producing the best selfies, because it complements the subject. You could include a solid or nature-oriented background. When performing outdoor shots, use a tree or brick building to guarantee premier-quality selfies.

Approximate angle and distance

Incorporating the right distance and angle can make a difference. Best practices include:

  1. Angling the camera down 45 degrees
  2. Depending on your arm length, keep the camera 10 to 12 inches away

And most importantly, make sure you smile!
