USI student accepts position with Old National after TCA completion

By Stephanie Wagner, USI Opportunity Development Communications Intern

In his last semester, Corey Foster was working as a student worker in the USI Information Technology department and had a desire to do more.

He applied to the Technology Commercialization Academy (TCA), a 12-week, nationally recognized program designed for USI students to work with local clients who are seeking new ventures. After graduating with his bachelor’s degree in computer information systems and marketing in May 2017, Foster began the TCA that same month.

“I was drawn to program, because it promised an opportunity to use a variety of skills,” said Foster. “From my degree to my passion for creating videos, I knew it would challenge my skills and allow me to grow as an individual”

During the program, Foster spent the summer working with Autumn Cherry from Boredom Busters for Kids and other regional companies. Boredom Busters is a print catalog that wanted to go mobile. TCA participants worked alongside the company to create a mobile application.

Corey Foster“Working for TCA allowed me to discover my passion for development and gave me the knowledge and drive to work on similar projects with my free time after the program was over,” said Foster.

Beyond the TCA, Foster spent the remainder of his summer at Innovation Pointe shadowing Josh McWilliams, USI technology commercialization coordinator and Sam Stevens, software engineer, to further expand his knowledge. He continued working on personal projects, while leveraging networking opportunities to find an appropriate career.

“The projects I worked on in the TCA became a huge discussion point in my interviews with Old National.”

Foster started as a digital solutions analyst for Old National Bank on October 10, 2017. In his position, he works in a small team that maintains and improves systems that direct the flow of documents and files.
