Priority Registration for Spring/Summer 2009

The purpose of the November 3-14 priority registration period is to let continuing and readmitting students select courses prior to the beginning of the term. Click here for further details about registration eligibility, including registration holds, readmission procedures, and a quick MyUSI login guide.

Eligible continuing and readmitting students register online via MyUSI.  Priority registration begins at 8 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2008, and progresses according to the schedule below. Students register according to the total of their earned plus currently enrolled hours, and are encouraged to register on their first day of eligibility. If you cannot register on the assigned day, you may do so on any of the subsequent days.

Extended dates of registration; schedule

revisions/withdrawals before term begins

Eligible continuing and readmitting students not taking advantage of the November 3-14 priority registration period will have additional opportunities to register online through MyUSI, according to the schedule below. Students should first meet with their academic advisor (subject to availability) to review course options, then log on to MyUSI to register for classes.

Any student who is registered for a semester/term is eligible for schedule revisions and withdrawals for that semester/term. A schedule revision is a drop and/or add that leaves you still enrolled in coursework for the term. A withdrawal is when you drop all courses for the semester/term. If you wish to alter your original schedule, whether by personal incentive or by school directive, you must do so officially. If you do not assume this responsibility, you may jeopardize your record with the possibility of incurring an ‘F’ in a course not properly dropped and/or not receiving credit in a course improperly added. Merely not attending a course does not automatically remove the course from your record.

any registration, schedule revision, withdrawal, or refund period.

NOTES:

  • Notice of policy change: Students are responsible for their enrollment. Effective fall 2006, enrolled students must take action to drop/withdraw themselves from any classes.  The University will no longer cancel students' classes for failure to settle their account.  If you do not assume this responsibility, you may jeopardize your record with the possibility of incurring an ‘F’ in courses not properly dropped. Merely not attending a course does not automatically remove the course from your record.

  • Students who took advantage of priority registration or registered during the first set of dates (prior to billing, shown in pink) will receive a USI Express Pay email notice when eBills are ready. You will be expected to settle your account with the Bursar’s Office by the bill due date (see third column for dates).

  • Students are encouraged to register at the earliest opportunity. Students who register after the initial eBilling (during dates in the fourth column, shown in blue) will not receive the initial USI Express Pay email notice, but will still be expected to settle their account with the Bursar’s Office by the date shown. After registering online, go to “View Bills/Pay Online” to see your current balance; pay online or visit the Bursar’s Office to settle your account.  If you anticipate receiving financial assistance to cover your fees, contact the Student Financial Assistance office after registering to request award processing; please register several days before the bill due date in order to allow time for the aid to appear on your account.

  • Open Registration (the date shown in yellow) is the final opportunity to enroll prior to the beginning of the term.  Students will be expected to settle their account with the Bursar’s Office by the date shown. After registering online, go to “View Bills/Pay Online” to see your current balance; pay online or visit the Bursar’s Office to settle your account. Any registration that takes place after Open Registration (dates shown in green) is considered a Late Registration.  Students allowed to register during the first week of the term (first two days of a summer term) will be assessed a $30 late registration fee; students allowed to late register after the first week (after first two days of summer) will be assessed a $125 late registration fee.

New undergraduate students

As a new freshman or transfer student for spring or summer 2009, you will be required to attend an Orientation program to introduce you to life at USI and register for classes. Click here to learn more about Orientation; email connect@usi.edu; phone 812/465-7167 or 800/350-7830.

Distance Education Course Registration

USI students follow the appropriate registration schedule to enroll in USI Distance Education courses (a list is found on page 25 of the class schedule). Because Indiana College Network (ICN) distance education courses require coordination between campuses, students are encouraged to initiate the registration process during priority registration in November. The ICN registration process must be completed by 4:30 p.m. on the following deadlines:

          Spring 2009 courses: Monday, January 5, 2009

          Summer I courses: Wednesday, May 6, 2009

Summer II courses: Wednesday, June 10, 2009

Summer III courses: Wednesday, July 15, 2009

Click HERE for more information on ICN registration.

NOTES:

Schedule revisions/withdrawals during the first week (first two days of summer terms)

  • Web processing: all students are eligible to add or drop courses online via MyUSI. NOTE: once the term begins, Web changes (drop/add) cannot be processed for some special length courses; students must submit the appropriate form to the Office of the Registrar for processing.

  • Walk-through processing: you may add or drop courses in person at the Office of the Registrar; only your signature is required. You may withdraw from all classes by submitting a Withdrawal From All Classes form at the Office of the Registrar. A withdrawal request will also be accepted by fax to 812/464-1911; the letter must include your full name, student ID number, address, phone/e-mail, the semester you wish to be withdrawn from, and student signature.

Schedule revisions/withdrawals beginning the second week (3rd day of summer terms)

  • Web processing: online schedule changes are not available beyond the first week of the term (first two days of summer terms).

  • Walk-through processing: you may add or drop courses in person at the Office of the Registrar by submitting an Add/Drop form. The form requires the signature of the instructor of each course being dropped or added, your academic advisor's signature, and your signature. NOTE: only in exceptional circumstances will you be allowed to add a course after the first week of the term (first two days of summer terms). You may withdraw from all classes by submitting a Withdrawal From All Classes form. GRADING: if you drop or withdraw during/after the 10th week of classes (fourth week/summer terms), it is 'with evaluation'.  You will receive the grade 'W' if passing at the time you drop/withdraw; however, if you are failing at the time you drop/withdraw, you will receive a grade of 'F'.

* NOTE: Courses meeting less than a complete term and cross-term summer courses have different drop/refund/grading dates. Contact the Office of the Registrar for these dates; 812/464-1762 or 800/467-1965 (option #3). Online schedule revisions or withdrawals for special length courses can only be processed through the course's 100 percent refund period (but no later than the first week of the term, first two days/summer). Thereafter, students must submit the appropriate form to the Office of the Registrar for processing.
