Undergraduate Readmission

A student once enrolled at the University an undergraduate, who for any reason does not re-enroll in a subsequent fall and/or spring semester, must initiate an Application for Readmission in the Office of the Registrar prior to returning to campus for the next enrollment.  To facilitate registration for the upcoming semester/term, the readmission application should be submitted by the following dates:
If returning for the following term: Submit readmission application by:
Fall semester August 1 (same calendar year)
Spring semester December 1 (preceding calendar year)
Summer (any session) April 1 (same calendar year)

A readmission can still be completed after the date listed, but the student may be more likely to experience registration delays.

Degree-seeking readmission students are required to submit an official grade transcript from each institution attended since last attending USI.  If a student discontinues enrollment for more than one calendar year, then the student must re-enroll under the current program requirements.  A student may petition the department chair for permission to grandfather back to the original program requirements.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 requires the written signature or electronic signature (myUSI password) of the student to process information pertaining to the academic records of the student. Submission of an application for readmission by any of the following means conveys consent to the officials of the University of Southern Indiana to update your computerized academic record.

You can apply for undergraduate readmission at USI via the following options:

Fresh Start

The Fresh Start program is designed to benefit former USI undergraduate students who are returning to the University after an extended absence and whose previous academic record was unsatisfactory (student was dismissed).  This program allows a readmitting student who wishes to complete an unfinished undergraduate degree a one-time opportunity to apply for a "Fresh Start."

Students will be accepted into the program if they meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. The student applies for the program at the time of readmission (acceptance into the program is irreversible).

  2. The student has not been enrolled for four or more years (minimum of 48 months).

  3. The student was academically dismissed from USI the last term enrolled.

  4. The student achieves a minimum 2.00 grade point average on the first 12 quality hours taken after readmission and remains in good standing status while completing the hours.

Acceptance to the Fresh Start program subjects a student to the following provisions:

  1. USI courses and grades received prior to the accepted term will be excluded from the cumulative GPA calculations.

  2. USI courses with grades of C or above will count as earned hours. All other credits will be forfeited.

  3. Grades from all coursework taken at USI will be used in calculating eligibility for honors and honor societies.

  4. A student must re-declare a major and complete all academic requirements in effect at readmission.

  5. Prior to completion of a degree, a student must complete 30 additional hours at USI toward graduation after acceptance into the program.

  6. Fresh Start program status will be recorded on the student's academic record.
