Appeals Process

The appeals process is an entirely written process.  The hearing officer and the student do not meet directly with the appellate officer.

Appeals should be based on one of four grounds:

  1. Student's/student organization's rights were violated as a result of failure of due process (specify rights believed to have been violated),
  2. Decision is arbitrary (no basis in University policy for decision) or capricious manner (the finding is against the substantial weight of the evidence),
  3. Significant new evidence is available that could change the outcome, and/or
  4. The appropriateness of the sanction is in question

The appellate officer will generally notify you of your appeal status within ten (10) business days.
