Vision Statement
The Department of
Recreation, Fitness, and Wellness seeks to compliment the Mission
Statement of the University by encouraging the physical, emotional,
relational, spiritual, intellectual, vocational, and environmental
growth of the students, faculty, and staff.
Mission Statement
The Department of Recreation, Fitness and Wellness provides quality programs,
services, and facilities to the diverse community of the University of
Southern Indiana. We encourage the lifelong pursuit of an active, healthy
lifestyle that enhances student development by providing leadership and
employment opportunities
Recreation, Fitness and Wellness Program Overview
The Recreation and Fitness Center offers up-to-date facilities and diverse
programming to help students and employees in their pursuit of healthy
lifestyles. A qualified staff is available to help you reach your goals
and provide a safe and effective environment for your activities.
The fitness staff provides individual fitness consultations and group exercise classes and offers incentive programs to encourage and reward participation in fitness and wellness programs. Fitness and wellness programs offered include fitness center milers, weightlifting club, walk/jog program, massage rewards, 12 ways of fitness, and wellness bingo.
Intramural Recreational Sports Program Overview
This program offers
more than 50 activities that include team & individual
sports, special events, and outdoor adventure trips. No matter what your
level of ability, the diversity of the activities offered allows you to
find the opportunity that’s right for you.
Intramural leagues and tournaments are offered in a variety of team, individual, and dual sports ranging from basketball and volleyball to golf and tennis. Men’s, women’s, and coed teams are available.
Special Events such as euchre card night and fun night at Walther’s are one-day activities that are designed to relieve stress and offer an enjoyable leisure activity that gives students, faculty, and staff a chance to relax and have fun.
Outdoor Adventure trips include activities such as backpacking, camping,
rock climbing, canoeing, caving, and hiking. Participants travel to
scenic destinations in the region to enjoy these challenges.
State and National Affiliation
The USI Recreation, Fitness, and Wellness Department is a member of
the Indiana
Recreational Sports Association (IRSA) and the National
Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA).
