Physical Activities Center - Aquatics

The 25-meter, six-lane indoor pool in the PAC is available for informal recreation and for swimming instruction.

Open Swim
During the fall and spring semester, the pool is open for recreational and lap swimming during scheduled hours seven days a week. During the summer session, open swim hours are available Monday through Friday. All pool sessions are supervised by certified lifeguards.

Instruction
Non-credit classes are open to the public. Swimming lessons for children and adults are offered through the Office of Continuing Education. All classes promote water safety and help participants improve their water skills. Certified instructors teach all classes. Course schedules are published three times a year as newspaper inserts and are available from the Office of Continuing Education (464-1989) and at www.usi.edu/extserv/fitness.asp. Registration can be completed online, by phone (464-1989 or 800/467-8600), by fax (465-7061) or in person at the Office of Continuing Education (Room 1068 in Orr Center).

Learn-to-swim classes for children are offered in the spring and fall, and a mini- session is available in the spring. Continuing Education also offers a Summer Enrichment Camp, a day camp for children, which uses the pool for open-swim sessions.
Non-credit classes for adults include competitive stroke clinic (spring), water aerobics (fall, spring and summer), aquanastics (summer), parent/child water exploration (summer), scuba (spring), life guarding (fall and spring), and water safety instructor (spring).

Credit classes are offered through the Department of Physical Education. These include beginning swimming (fall, spring and summer), aquatic exercise (fall, spring and summer), life guarding (fall), and water safety instructor (spring). Students sign up for these courses through the usual registration process prior to each semester.
