At a Party or Bar
While everyone should be able to go out and have a good time, it's important to know that alcohol is involved in many sexual assaults.
- Drink moderately and know your limits. Limit your alcohol consumption so you maintain an awareness of your surroundings and the people you are with.
- Do not leave beverages unattended. If it smells or tastes funny, get another drink.
- Avoid open-container drinks like punch bowls.
- Eat something. A full stomach can help lower your level of intoxication.
- Go out with a trusted friend or group, and make sure everyone leaves together.
- Choose your friends wisely. Surround yourself with irresponsible friends and you may not be as safe as you think.
- Don't leave a party or go home with someone you don't know well or don't trust.
- Trust your gut. If a situation doesn't feel right, get out. Seek out help from friends, other bystanders, party hosts, bartenders, and bouncers.
