Out and About

Dating
  • When you are going out with a new date, meet at a public location. Or consider going out with a group of friends.
  • Be cautious of sharing your address and school or work schedule until you get to know someone.
  • Take your own car. You'll have transportation if things get uncomfortable.
  • Share with a friend where you are going and when you expect to return.
  • Check in with a friend during the date if it makes you feel more comfortable.
Exercising
  • Stick together. Run, walk, and bike in pairs or groups.
  • Always take your cell phone.
  • If you listen to music, turn the volume down so that you can hear what is going on around you.

Traveling

  • Be aware of others when you get on an elevator.  You can always wait for the next one if something doesn't feel right.
  • When flying, don't display your personal information. Last names and work addresses will work fine on your suitcase. Never leave your luggage unattended.
  • Wait for taxis in safe, well-lit places. Know where you are going and how long it should take to get there.  Always use a licensed cab company.
