Student Wellness - Programs
Wonderful World of Wellness Fair (now partnered with the Employee Health Fair) is held in the fall of each school year. The fair for students and staff is a program to present the seven dimensions of wellness – Spiritual, Emotional, Career, Environmental, Physical, Intellectual and Social. University and community groups participate.
Midnight Magic Ski Trip
The Midnight Magic Ski Trip is a “wellness break” that provides a getaway opportunity for late-night skiing at Paoli Peaks in Paoli, Indiana. Participants have opportunities to make new friends, exercise, and try a new sport. Transportation and food are provided free; a reduced rate is available for pass and equipment rental. Interested students should sign up early since space is limited. The trip is sponsored jointly by the Student Wellness, Residence Life, and Intramural Recreational Sports programs.
Great American Smokeout
The third Thursday in November is the day all smokers are urged to give up smoking for one day. The program encourages a smoke free environment for all.
Brochures
Brochures on a wide variety of health promotion, disease prevention, and wellness topics are free and available in the Student Wellness display racks located in the Orr Center, Wright Building, PAC, Rec & Fitness Center, University Center (downstairs women and men restrooms, McWest Rec Laundry Room and the Laundry Room located by the Eagle Express Convenience Store.
Safe Spring Break Fair
The fair is held the Wednesday prior to spring break. Topics are present by both university and community participants. The purpose of the fair is to present students with information on a variety of topics from skin care, drinking, date rape and assault, gambling, smoking cessation, international travel to auto care.
Pianos
The Student Wellness program acquires and maintains donated pianos in residence halls for use by students. The instruments are provided as a source of personal and social pleasure, to reduce stress, and to help students develop and maintain musical skills while at USI.
Speech and Hearing Testing
Speech and hearing tests are conducted for students enrolled in the Teacher Education Program. Call the Student Wellness office at 812/464-1807 for an appointment.
B.R.A.D. Birthday Card Project
This program targeting persons who turn 21 years of age while they are a student at USI. A birthday card (encouraging students to celebrate their birthday but also to be safe) and wallet card (giving alcohol poisoning information) is sent to the student.
Finals Week Support
Free stress-relief back massages also are available to help students cope with the stress of taking finals.
Archibald Eagle’s Food Closet
Archibald Eagle’s Food Closet provides non-perishable food and non-food items at no cost on an emergency basis to members of the University community. Requests for Assistance are confidential. All items for the food closet are provided by the University community.
