Summer Retreat 2008 - June 14-21

The 2008 RopeWalk Writers Retreat marks our 20th year in Utopia, aka, New Harmony, Indiana. Plans are well underway for new Master Classes (one each in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry) on Saturday, June 14.  Admission for the Master Classes, led by some favorite RopeWalk faculty, will be competitive. Public readings begin on Saturday evening.  Sunday's events include a picnic for RopeWalk alumni and 2008 participants, followed by an alumni reading.  RopeWalk proper begins on Sunday evening and ends with a closing dinner on Saturday, June 21.  The festivities wrap up after breakfast on Sunday.

Faculty for RopeWalk 2008 are Stephen Dobyns, poetry; Brigit Pegeen Kelly, poetry; Lee Martin, fiction; Susan Neville, creative nonfiction; Dave Smith, poetry; and Elizabeth Stuckey-French, fiction.

The weeklong RopeWalk Writers Retreat gives participants an opportunity to attend workshops and to confer privately with one of six prominent writers. Historic New Harmony, Indiana, site of two nineteenth-century utopian experiments, provides an ideal setting for this event with its retreat-like atmosphere and its history of creative and intellectual achievement. At RopeWalk you will be encouraged to write, not simply listen to others talk about writing. In addition, several writers will present papers or give lectures, open to all participants, on aspects of the craft of writing. For additional information, call 812/464-1863 or 800/467-8600. E-mail inquiries should be addressed to ropewalk@usi.edu.

If you require assistance with seating at a RopeWalk reading, large-print materials, sign language interpretation, or other accommodations to facilitate your participation, please contact Linda Cleek at 812/464-1863 or 800/467-8600 as far in advance as possible.
