Workshops and Lectures
RopeWalk workshops are held at various facilities, including the New Harmony Inn and the Guest House, which also serves as conference headquarters. Craft lectures are held at the Barn Abbey. Nothing in New Harmony is more than a few blocks from anything else.
A block of rooms has been reserved at the New Harmony Inn and Conference Center. Reservations at the Inn should be made by May 12 by calling 800/782-8605 or 812/682-4491. Room rates are $96 (Riverbend) and $106 (Rosebank), single or double, plus tax. If you are interested in sharing a room at the Inn, please complete the proper portion of the registration form.
The Barn Abbey, a rustic retreat center, offers housing in bunk-bedded double rooms at $25 per night. Restroom/shower facilities are shared and rooms are located on first or second floor, no elevator. To reserve space at the Barn Abbey, call USI Extended Services at 812/464-1989 or 800/467-8600. Single rooms are available only if space permits. Lodging will be available the nights of June 7-13 (Sunday-Saturday, check-out on June 13).
Other lodging possibilities
include cabins or camping at nearby Harmonie State
Park or staying at a New Harmony bed-and-breakfast or motels in Mount Vernon,
Indiana, or Mount Carmel, Illinois. A housing list is available on request, or
At least the following meals are included with your RopeWalk registration: breakfast Monday-Saturday; lunch Monday-Friday; Sunday supper; Friday closing dinner. Breakfasts and lunches are served at the Barn Abbey; location of other meals will be announced. Participants are invited to the Alumni Picnic at noon on Sunday as well--no charge, reservations required.
New Harmony restaurants vary widely in menu and price. They include the Red Geranium (fine dining), The White House (gourmet sandwiches, full dinners), Church Street Gallery & Coffee House (coffee drinks and "a bite to eat"), deli-style sandwiches at grocery and convenience stores, and the ever-popular Yellow Tavern (pizza, burgers, no family room). Those staying at the Barn Abbey have access to refrigeration but not to cooking facilities.
