The Pott College of Science and Engineering invites applications/proposals for the Victor H. and Elizabeth A. Barnett Research Award. This award supports undergraduate research and will be available to a student in good standing who submits a successful research proposal in collaboration with a sponsoring faculty member. The research is to be conducted while the student is enrolled at USI. The award may not be given to a student who has already earned a 4-year degree.
The proposal format, proposal evaluation criteria, project duration, and final reporting requirements will be the same as for the RISC program, and may be found at this link:
The amount of the Barnett award is $1,000. Funds may be used for any of the items indicated for the RISC grants, with the addition that the Barnett funds may be used either for research to be conducted at USI or another institution, or for travel to attend a scientific meeting. A committee comprised of the School's five department chairs will make the award selection.
Proposals (one original plus one copy) for the Barnett award must be received in the Office of the Dean, Pott College of Science and Engineering, no later than 4:30 p.m. on Friday of the sixth week of fall semester classes. For the 2008-09 academic year, this deadline is Friday, October 10, 2008. Proposal evaluation will occur shortly thereafter.
Questions about the Barnett award program may be addressed to the Associate Dean, Pott College of Science and Engineering.
