Interesting info

This Joe-pye weed is also known as purple boneset because the stems are purple at the joints.

A different plant, called spotted Joe-pye weed or E. maculatum, has purple spots and pink flowers.

You ought to know

Height: 4' - 6'

Frequency: Scarce at preserve; a few plants found in high, dry areas of the shady woods.

Blooms: July and August

Range: Found infrequently throughout Indiana.

Also found from New England to Nebraska and from Georgia to Oklahoma.
