208 Wildlife Biology - 3 hours. Basic principles of wildlife biology and their application to current problems. Techniques used in habitat evaluation, game and area mapping, taxonomy, population dynamics, and analysis.

215 Ecology - 3 hours.  An introductory survey of the nature and importance of the interactions between organisms and their abiotic and biotic environments.  Topics include energy flow, population dynamics, species interactions, community structure and development, and the use of statistics in ecological studies. (3-0) F, Sp  Prereq: Biol 151 and 152.

221 Introduction to Entomology - 3 hours. Study of insects, their structure, taxonomy, development, ecology, economic importance, and their relation to other arthropods. (2-1) F  Prereq: Biol 141.

225 Biological Literature and Communication - 2 hours. This course is an introduction to scientific communication in biology. Topics covered will include the structure of primary literature in biology and outlets for communication of new knowledge in biology, concepts of basic statistical description and inference relevant to biologists, and methods for using biological databases. Hypothesis testing and the hypothetico-deductive method will also be discussed from both the standpoints of statistics and the epistemological foundations of scientific knowledge. (2-0) Sp
Prereq: Biol 141.

251 Environmental Conservation - 3 hours. This course is designed to introduce students to the basic scientific principles needed to understand the interdisciplinary and multinational (multicultural) nature of environmental issues and concerns. Through a series of lectures, discussions and videotapes the student will be introduced to environmental issues from scientific viewpoints as well as political, economic, social, and philosophical realms. (3-0) F, Sp, Su  No Prereq

272 Medical Microbiology - 3 hours. The structure, physiology, and general characteristics of medically important microorganisms. Included will be a study of host defense mechanisms, infections of human systems, control of infection, and development of microbiological techniques. Primarily for students in nursing, dental hygiene, and respiratory therapy. (2-1) F, Sp  Prereq: One college chemistry course and one college course in Human Anatomy and/or Physiology or BIOL152 or equivalent.

282 Heredity and Society - 3 hours. Introduction to the principles of human heredity and to the nature and expression of genetic material. The medical and social implications of genetics are explored. Biology majors may not enroll. (3-0) Sp Prereq: Biology 105 and chemistry recommended

285 Animal Behavior - 3 hours. Diversity of animal behaviors are explored in the contexts of physiology, genetics, ecology, and evolution. (3-0) Sp, alternate years. Prereq: one college course in biology.
