I came to USI unsure about my future career goals. I decided to major in biology because I have always been
interested in living things and how they work. I have also loved working with animals and knew I wanted to pursue a career with them.

Last summer I did an internship at the Dolphin Conservation Center in
Marineland Florida. Spending the summer working with dolphins made me
realize this was the career for me.

I am glad I chose to major in biology. The classes are challenging but I'm certain the material I learned will help me in the future. For example, during my internship, one of the dolphins had a viral disease and one of the trainers was explaining how viruses work and I knew exactly what he was
talking about having taken Microbiology!

Many of the biology classes are heavily lab-based as well, which I enjoy. We learn many lab techniques and are given many oppurtunities to perform experiments and
calculate results. We are also able to conduct our own experiments.

I've grown a lot since freshman year and now am looking forward to a future in marine biology. The biology program has provided me with a good foundation to be successful with my future goals.
