Activity #1
a) Title:
Otters=20 Minor League Baseball = Game
b) Description

to one paragraph):		 
Section members and =
guests attended an Evansville
Otters minor league baseball game.  Before the game
started, those attending enjoyed a picnic.  Twenty
people attended.  This was a great opportunity for
members to meet together and enjoy the game.  It also
an opportunity to bring in non-members to meet current
members.

Activity #2
a) Title
IN-KY=20 Section Honors = Banquet
b) Description

This event was held =
in April in Owensboro, KY.  The
section treated members, award winners, and their
faculty sponsors to a great dinner at Moonlite
Bar-B-Que.  After dinner the group adjourned to
Kentucky Wesleyan College where awards for outstanding
senior and sophmore chemistry majors were given to
students from area universities.  Then a presentation
was given by Dr. Sandra Rosenthal (Vanderbilt
University)on functional =
nanocrystals.

Activity #3
a) Title
Section=20 meeting with Suzanne Q. = Lomax
b) Description

Interested members =
and guests met for dinner with Dr.
Lomax at Western Ribeye & Ribs before the meeting. =20
The section meeting was held at the University of
Evansville.  This meeting provided a great outreach
opportunity with Dr. Lomax being from the National
Gallery of Art.  This attracted not only members,
science students and faculty, but also art students=20
and faculty.  The presentation was very well received=20
with standing room only in the large class hall.  The=20
crowd was estimated at over =
100.

Activity #4
a) Title:
Chemistry Week Community=20 Demonstrations
b) Description =

Chemistry =
demonstrations were performed for over 1000
participants in 4th and 5th grades in schools in the=20
three county region.  Presenters included both=20
members and non-members from local industry and=20
academia.  This provided an opportunity for local=20
students to learn more about science, science=20
careers, and how science impacts their =
community.

Activity #5
a) Title
Chemisty Bowl - Merck Indexes Given = Out
b) Description =

The chemistry bowl =
competition was held at the
University of Southern Indiana with teams from six=20
area high schools competing for the top prize.  The=20
top two teams were awarded plaques for the=20
achievement.  All science/chemistry teachers=20
attending received a Merck Index for use in their=20
classroom.  The Merck Indexes were donated by Merck. =20
The event received coverage in the local =
newspaper.

Activity #6
a) Title:
Section=20 Meeting with Jonathon = Wilker
b) Description

The October section =
meeting featured Dr. Jonathon
Wilker from Purdue University.  Before the meeting
interested members met for dinner with Dr. Wilker at
O'Charley's.  Dr. Wilker presented his research on
better understanding adhesives of mussels and
barnacles.  There was a nice turn-out for this meeting
including a number of undergraduates who participated
in the discussion.  Dr. Wilker also had the=20
opportunity
to visit with technologists at the local SABIC
Innovative Plastics =
facility.

Activity #7
a) Title:
Section=20 Meeting with William = Hollar
b) Description:

Dr. William Hollar, =
principle engineer at SABIC
Innovative Plastics (SABIC-IP), was the presenter at
the March section meeting.  Dr. Hollar discussed a
process history of LEXAN* polycarbonate resin.  This
presentation gave a good background of the process
involved in making PC at the local SABIC-IP facility.=20
This provided technical insight into the chemistry and
engineering behind the development of making
polycarbonate.

Activity #8
a) Title:
Section=20 Meeting with Marshall = Lake
b) Description:

The February =
meeting began with dinner at a local
favorite the Gerst Haus.  The section meeting was held
at the University of Southern Indiana.  Mr. Lake is a
Professional Geologist working for PSC Industrial
Outsourcing.  Mr. Lake discussed environmental
consulting and remediation.  He presented three
different examples of remediation efforts and how
chemistry comes into play.  This presentation by a
non-chemist from industry helped to broaden the
offering to local section =
members.

Activity #9
a) Title:
Section=20 Meeting with Boyd = Goodson
b) Description:

Dr. Boyd Goodson =
from Southern Illinois University at
Carbondale gave a presentation on the research his=20
team
has done with NMR and MRI.  This meeting had a nice
turn-out with a mix of members and students.  It was
important to get in presenters from regional
universities to help students and members know what
type of research is going on in our extended =
area.

Activity #10
a) Title:
Boy=20 Scout Merit Badge = University
b) Description:

Members were the =
merit badge councilors and provided
instruction for the chemistry merit badge at the day
long event held in February at USI.  The event=20
allowed 18 Scout participants to meet the=20
requirements for the chemistry merit badge.  This=20
event helps to promote chemistry as well as providing=20
outreach to the community.  35 university students=20
assisted with material and equipment set-up and/or=20
hands-on activities with the =
Scouts.

-This goal was met as the section held over 10
activities for the year.

2.Continue support of National Chemistry Week,

meeting.
-The section did a great job in reaching out to over
1000 students during NCW.  Again the section supported
student awards for local undergraduates.  The section
again participated in the chemistry Olympiad.

3.Increase outreach to non-science based groups by
having at least two meetings, activities, or
presentations with/for those groups.  Examples of such
groups are Boy and Girl Scouts, Rotary, Lions, 4H,
Kiwanis, etc.
-The section had mixed success here.  We were able to
have events with the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts,
but did not effectively get out to discuss more about
chemistry with civic groups and non-scientific=20

goals listed above.
-For the most part, the sections goals were met.  The
chair needed to do more to set up a support system for
outreach to non-typical, non-science based groups.

2.Write a grant proposal to fund a science caf=C3=A9 in the
section.
-While a grant was not submitted for the science cafe,
other grant proposals were submitted.  We applied for=20
a
Student Member Bridging the Gap grant and received it.
 We applied for the Local Section Partnership Grant.=20
We also received Merck Indexes which were distributed
to local high school science/chemistry teachers for=20
use
in their classrooms.

3.Work with the local section members to help carry-
out the national president's goal of presenting the
human side of chemistry.=20
-The section did a good job of showing the human side
of chemistry by the efforts put into the NCW
demonstrations at local elementary schools.  Also
working with the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts allows
members to connect with students.  It would have been
good to reach out to more non-science groups.  This
needed some more specific support from the chair and
