This is a very exciting period for the Chemistry Department, located on the second floor of the Science Center, and the Pott College of Science and Engineering. In the summer of 1999, we completed a multi-million dollar renovation for the Science Center, which allowed the Chemistry Department to update most of its current laboratories and to add supplemental laboratory space.  In the summer of 2003, through generous funding of another science building by the Indiana State Legislature, we have concluded the construction of an additional general chemistry laboratory, a state-of-the-art biochemistry laboratory, and an OSHA-compliant chemistry stockroom.

Along with the remodeled laboratories, the department has also acquired a wide variety of modern instruments, many of which interface with personal computers for facile data manipulation. The instruments are routinely used in the teaching laboratories and by the students involved in undergraduate research. This allows our undergraduates to learn an extensive range of experimental techniques.

A newly updated computer laboratory is located on the second floor of the Science Center. Hard-copy laser printers, color printers, and high-speed computers are networked. At these stations, students are able to perform molecular modeling experiments to acquire, manipulate, and process data, and to search chemical literature. As a result, our undergraduates procure skills in how to use computers, which is indispensable in today's technological environment.
