I decided to pursue a degree in chemistry after my freshman year at USI, because I found freshman chemistry to be interesting, but wanted to know more. The enthusiasm of the chemistry faculty at USI was a major influence on my desire to understand chemistry.

In addition, USI has provided me with many opportunities to expand my knowledge in chemistry, such as a part-time job in the chemical stockroom, being a Supplemental Instruction Leader for non-majors’ chemistry, undergraduate teaching experience, undergraduate research and presenting this research at an American Chemical Society National Meeting in Philadelphia. Due to my experience at USI, I was invited to conduct research on superacids this past summer at the University of California, Riverside.

I have participated in many events sponsored by the American Chemical Society Student Affiliates Chapter at USI. Such activities include performing demonstrations at local 4th grade classrooms, at the Evansville Museum of Art and Science, and for local Boy and Girl Scout troops.

ACS is not all work as we have challenges such as bowling and miniature golf for the coveted Golden Flask Award against the Biology Club.

My four years at USI have been fun, exciting, and most importantly educational. I have learned a tremendous amount at USI, which I will use as I continue my education pursuing a doctorate in inorganic chemistry, in hopes of becoming a professor.
