Chemistry Programs
Chemistry serves students who wish to prepare themselves for industrial work or graduate study in chemistry as well as those who wish to satisfy the science requirements in the University Core Curriculum for the baccalaureate degree; to meet pre-professional requirements in many fields such as medicine, dentistry, engineering, pharmacy, and nursing; or to fulfill the requirements in chemistry for certification as secondary school teachers in the state of Indiana. Professional and pre-professional programs are designed to develop a strong background in the basic areas of chemistry.
Curricula
With the addition of 50 semester hours in the University Core Curriculum, the following curriculum comprises a four-year pattern. Students are encouraged to demonstrate a second-year foreign language competency.
USI offers four major programs and one minor program:
- Chemistry major (industrial-grade study). ACS approved degree
- Chemistry major (pre-professional, medical, dental, teaching, etc). Non-ACS approved degree
- Chemistry major (environmental emphasis). Non-ACS approved degree
- Chemistry Teacher Certification
- Chemistry minor
- NEW Biochemistry program
