I’m a Chemistry major here at USI and also the starting setter for USI’s Volleyball team. As a student-athlete, my time is often limited, but that sadly never diminishes my work load. Thankfully, the Chemistry professors here at USI are great about helping me work through scheduling conflicts and are willing to take some of their own time to help out not only myself, but all students who need assistance.

USI’s Chemistry program is an excellent place to start any career. Aside from the necessary classes, there are seminars where the Chem majors from all years get together to learn from each other. USI also has an affiliate chapter for the American Chemical Society that students are encouraged to join. The professors teach their own classes – no TAs. And, class sizes are small enough that the professors will know you by name. No 500-student lectures here.

The professors at USI are also great about helping you to prepare the way for your future careers. They are always encouraging undergraduate research, both at USI and through summer research opportunities for undergrads, called REUs, across the nation. It’s no question that they have your individual best interest at heart.

I chose USI because of the individual attention, up-to-date facilities, and student-friendly environment. It’s a great school with a fantastic Chemistry program.
