Step 2

During operation, the intake valve is opened, allowing high pressure steam, (shown in dark blue) to enter the cylinder, pushing the piston down. This high pressure steam also forces the valve stem of the McCoy lubricator upward, opening the valve at the top of the valve stem tube. This lets steam force its way up into the lubricator body.
