Lab 6: Drilling Circuit with Speed Control

Equipment

1. Vickers hydraulic training bench

2. Directional valve

3. Flow control valve

4. Hydraulic motor

5. PC w/Labview program

Objectives

1. Design and operate a drilling circuit with reversing capabilities.

2. Design and operate a drilling circuit with speed control.

3. Determine the effect of various speeds on the circuit performance and pressure.

Procedure

1. Construct a hydraulic circuit with reversing capability.

2. Measure the pressures as useful.

3. Vary the relief valve settings and ascertain the effects (if any).

4. Add the flow control valve to control the speed of the motor with its clockwise rotation taken as the drilling direction.  (Show circuit sketch)

5. Select appropriate settings of the flow control valve and operate the motor in both directions.

6. Measure the pressures and speed for various settings.

7. Meter the flow and determine the setting for continuous uniform motion.

8. Tabulate your data results.

Questions

1. What is the minimum and maximum speed for the drilling operation of the motor?

2. Using the flow rate of the pump from a previous experiment calculate the displacement of the motor.
