Mission Statement
It is the primary mission of the Department of Geology and Physics to provide students with a strong education in the geological sciences and physics that is based on classical instruction, inquiry, laboratory and field work, and, fosters critical thinking skills.
We prepare our students for successful graduate studies in the sciences, careers in geology, and other professional vocations.
The geology and physics programs provide appropriately rigorous science electives that support the university’s science, engineering, and education programs, and the core curriculum. We strive to help all of our students be responsible global citizens.
The geology and physics faculty pursue excellence in teaching and scholarship to benefit not only students, but also our university, regional, national, and disciplinary communities. We hope that our example and leadership will instill in students an interest in, and commitment to, ethical professional service and advancement.
